Crop Cafe
Milford's prime people-watching perch delivers a rosti bene that's one crispy bacon strip and a squeeze of lemon away from greatness. Solid, enjoyable, and almost there.

Walked in to crop expecting a harvest so you can imagine my surprise when it was just a bunch of ppl chowing down midst chinwaggle. No horses to be beaten. What if i needed my images resized? Located on the corner of the busiest intersection in milford is not what you might think.
Instead, Crop is a lovely little cafe primed for people watching the passersby and wondering why so many people run when their faces so visibly express their suffering. Just stop. You don't have to.
I walked up to the counter to ask if the benedict could be made gluten free, and the restaurateur mentioned two options available - rosti or gf bread. Tears lined my eyes as I relived my last bird cracker benedict. I ordered the rosti benedict for $26 dollars, along with my steadfast oat milk iced latte.
The best people watching spots are ones where you watch them, but they don't notice you. Seated outside adjacent the bustling street, I was invisible, and after a pleasant catch up with friends, first my coffee and then my food arrived.
The coffee was a coffee. Pleased as I was to drink of its nectar, it wouldn't visit me in my dreams that night. The benedict was a tiered tower based on rosti and smashed avo - look at crop doling out to the needy. Then came the spinach leaves upon which rested the product of an unrequited chicken love; my two poached eggs. The egg chef aimed for the moon, missed, and landed amongst the stars, with the yolk of the eggs just a sliver overcooked around the edges. Still had sufficient yellow lava to bathe the companionable ingredients in delectable goodness.
The bacon was good, but fell shy of crispy, akin to the hollandaise lacking a splash of lemon to add some punch to its smooth buttery flavour. Overall, the benedict was solid, I enjoyed eating it, sure it could do with a little refinement but hay - oh wait i forgot theres no horses here.
I had a nice morning, sponsored by crop. If a friend wanted to eat there, i would happily tag along and support the local. I'd give the bene a respectable 8/10, same for the coffee, and after accounting for atmosphere and staff friendliness, final arbitration reveals a madrosti_ score of 8.1 / 10.
